Hi /out/, is this the board for vandwelling? Have any of you done it?

Millennial truecel here ready to stop paying so much fucking money for a place to sleep when I'm gonna have a car anyway.

I mostly want to know about climate control. I'm gonna need AC for summer sleep but it's not like you can just keep the engine running.

Having ac in a stationary van is exceptionally difficult. It requires a ton of solar and a ton of batteries and a expensive mini split ac unit to do it properly. You learn to cope without luxuries or you go back to paying out the ass to have these things.

Irt's always nice to see that somebody designed a good seating area, with good back support. Usually the one thing missing seems to be a place to sit comfortably (with a table/desk) in these vans.

When I did it for 2 years, I relied heavy on the local climbing gym. Got in shape and shed all my debt, but ultimately missed having a kitchen.

Its a good transition but don't plan on it long term. 3 years max.

I have done vanning and it is not fun or even particularly cost saving. You will dislike the cramped conditions. Your sleep will suffer. Weird shit will happen to you from cops and the homeless. You will eat poorly. You will miss secure internet and electricity. It is a stupid yooootuber hobby meme not a viable lifestyle. Also you freeze in winter and bake in summer

if you are doing it to beat the rent jew its basically hell on earth only reserved for emergencies or unplanned events. if you are doing it to travel rural areas and vacation spots with expensive lodging and take long vacations cheaply but have a residence to go back to then its just an amazing time. if you know how to wrench and are savvy enough to wire up a decent electrical system to have enough battery to maintain a fridge and modern internet via LTE or starlink you can live pretty damn well. but in the end you are burning money like a son of a bitch to have a fraction of what you would living in the shittiest apartment. its not a viable path to escape wage slavery unless you dedicated to live a spartan lifestyle with a fuck ton of compromises.

in the end its really just extremely sad that life in north america has devolved into a massive housing speculation market and corruption racket when it comes to building new houses, where one of the most preferable cheap forms of shelter is being homeless in a vehicle for even middle class millennials or retired boomers who couldn't save for retirement
