They met in outside of Cleveland in their 30s. We grew up poor, but then slowly managed to find ourselves middle class in Chicago, then to the suburbs. I was a stoner, and I skateboarded a lot in high school, but always wanted to experience the outdoors. I didn't see my first mountain until I was 17, when I took a solo Greyhound bus trip to Northern California. From there, I fell in love. I've been to 30 national parks, forests, wilderness areas, and many state parks. I have been to 48 out of 50 states, with Rhode Island and Idaho last on the list. I was also a Marine, and active in extreme sports.
