If you had a Sierra, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Marshall's, and Homesense gift card for $50 what do you think the most bang for your buck is? I got it for xmas and I like camping and cooking, but I don't really buy shit from anywhere but amazon these days, so IDK what would be smart to get. Sierra has some hiking and camping stuff

TJ Maxx sometimes has Darn Tough factory rejects. They don’t have a warranty but they’re like half price and are rejected due to visual defects (ink bleeding over borders). They also have that 32 Degrees down puffy, which is worth every penny.

Like anything at those places you have to be incredibly discriminating. Ideally it's just overstocked out of season inventory that companies will turn to cut losses, but they also sell stuff that doesn't pass quality control so you have to be extra careful with that. Don't buy anything you wouldn't normally skimp on. And the stuff that you do buy you need to examine thoroughly and try on.
That said I've gotten some decent stuff there. Clothing items are your best bet over gear but if you're lucky you can find some neat stuff

cool yeah i'm not a hardcore camper or hiker i mountain bike a little and do some casual camping where there aren't bears. i also hike but nothing nuts

this store is a fucking joke
one opened up near me recently and the entire store is 98% mismatched metal racks with all "clearance" shit that isn't even outdoor related. I found a tommy hilfiger shirt on the rack at mine.

theres two shelves with random camping shit that makes walmart's camp section look like rei
