Does /out/ have any experience keeping outdoor cats? My house is on 10+ acres in the woods and of course we have mice. I've eradiated them from inside the house, but they are in my woodshed and probably in the garage. The mice get into my car and build little nests under the hood. Away from the house, there is a concrete pad that I use to park my camper and pickup truck. Mice there too.

I know I can get an outdoor cat house but how would I keep other animals like racoons or skunks out? My property is surrounded by a steep embankment and a brook, so I doubt they'd encounter many other domesticated cats. I know you can get cats very cheap at shelters, on craigslist or facebook market. I don't mind feeding the cats or bring them water, but I'm not catching them to bring them to the vet.

How does /out/ care for outdoor cats?
