as a homeless person, what can I do to protect myself from someone attacking me tent with me sleeping in it, if they are swinging a machete or baseball bat can't they fell me while I sleep in one go? I have a decent budget to buy countermeasures or upgrades. Homeless cause of mental illness (PTSD childhood family violence) not cause of poverty so I yeah I have money but need to live in a tent

Make sure you're not found. Instead of more stuff, have less stuff. Stay mobile, keep a low profile. Avoid easily accessible places. Look at stealth camping, most of what they do applies to you. Also avoid the roads and make sure you can't be seen from the surrounding paths/roads. Remember that most evildoers are motorised.

If a committed attacker is already swinging a machete or bat against you while you're sleeping in a small tent, it's too late to do anything but mag dump and hope you hit him. Defense and security while homeless is a broad topic but generally: Limit the motive for an attack, don't camp alone, create systems to alert you to intruders. The least secure way to camp is lone wolfing it in the woods, the most secure is with a group of homeless. PTSD while homeless is almost a guarantee that you'll end up in jail so I'd prioritize getting treatment. Good luck, man.
