This particular tent has several innate design failures. Tube tents/tunnel tents are a pain in the ass to get into and out of. You can’t sit up in them, so if it’s raining you just have to lie there. This tent has zero ventilation. It weighs a ton compared to similarly priced tents. There’s nothing to justify the price. It’s made out of an inferior material.
They list it as being made from “PA 6.6”, aka nylon 66. They do not list the material thickness, but judging from the weight and the mention of “military activity in wet conditions” I’d guess 1.9oz/70D (which is way overkill for a tent). Things have been trending toward polyester in the last decade but not everyone has caught on.
Outside of actual bivies (this isn’t one) in an arid environment (aka, their intended use), Gortex is a stupid choice. It isn’t waterproof, it’s “breathable.” Yeah yeah, gas permeable, etc. We’ve seen the DuPont advertisements. It’s going to wet out in a storm. It’s pretty much guaranteed.
