>>2711302look at a map. Figure out a place you want to go, and where you're going to start from. Decide the route you're going to take, either straight thru but more likely there will be several legs as you navigate around obstacles. Now you have a route, starting point, and destination. Put the compass on the map, align it for your magnetic declination. Now figure the bearing you have to follow for each leg. Write it down along w the distance. Get you a neck odometer, some water, your compass, and set off. Follow your bearings, counting your steps to determine how far on that bearing you've come. (You do know your stride length, right?) When you get to your destination, reverse the bearings by 180 degrees, and walk back to your starting point.
When you get good, do it at night w the luminous dial of your compass.
