The one by my house grows wheat or oats or something. They do harvest it every year but more and more of the farm land keeps getting sold off and houses built on it. 40 acres just went to one house - at least it's just one. Luckily the people that live across from the field next to me (on the next road over) have interest in buying it to expand their own mini-farm.

Woodcocks use it for breeding grounds every year so I hope it will stay as a field.

i was more thinking on the global scale.

last week i noticed the empty fields near my home. so my conspiracy alarm clocked in.

But yesterday i see 2 fields have crops,
some fields still empty maybe resting i dont know

as prepper i have personal food reserves
but not enough for a missing harvest.

so yeah when people report growing fields it relaxed me.

otherwise i would now stock up a one year food supply

I planted about 40 sunchoke roots on my property. A bunch near a seasonal creek. I'm hoping they will flourish and provide a great source of emergency food as well as a fun food for my pigs to dig up.

Percent of fields that the farmers declared for corn or soibeans vs how much is planted. I don’t know the exact split anymore. ‘Twas a time when they still practiced good crop rotation and it was basically 30/30/30 corn soibeans fallow or clover but I haven’t even seen them switching up corn and beans like they should and no one leaves land fallow or plants clover anymore.
