ITT: Post wildflowers you've seen and photographed while out. Anyone else interested in these things?

Pic related, California poppies and other wildflowers are in full bloom right now throughout the state.

Damn, wish I still had my wildflower project from high school biology. I took photos and pressed ever y wildflower native to California's San Joaquin valley.

We only need to do 10, but I had a lot of fun and a few extra weeks so I kept going.

I was driving through huntsville tx yesterday and almost stopped to take a picture at the sam houston monument. There was a perfect hill covered in buttercups leading to the statue.

Heres a pic of a half burnt clearing instead.

Don't have any pics yet, but in a few weeks the woods near where I live should be carpeted in Celandine so I'll try and remember this thread and post some pics. It's really pretty, but it sucks that they're an invasive species where I am.

Wifes dad used to get them for her mom. She gets a kick out of my bringing them to her. Consequently i also tend to a bootleg memorial for my best friend and put flowers there. As much for him and myself as others. Thinking a clean and well taken care of space may be resistant to vandals or at lesst i can clean it up and his mother doesnt see it.

I lowered the exposure before taking them since the lighting was kind of shitty, but that's it. I think it's the blue in contrast with all the surrounding brown/orange that makes them pop.

For anyone who knows their shit, are those Scilla Siberica? That's what my google-fu got me, but I'm just going by appearance.

Just walk up to them and be persistent. Find what they are working on and just kinda follow them around.

They don't mind you for the most part. That was shot with a 18-55 lens with a 2x teleconverter only about 5" from that bee or less.

Honestly with most bugs though it's probably easier with a telephoto macro lens. Especially one with an extremely fast AF.

Mostly time though,just hang around.

Note to self,shooting pictures at 8 in the evening it doesn't matter how big of an aperture or how high your ISO goes,you eventually do run out of light to take pictures by hand.

Yep, those are violets. You can use the flowers to make jelly if you add pectin. the leaves can be eaten and will thicken soup. The root is a bit emetic, so I wouldn't really eat if you don't like throwing up. Just keep in mind these used to be called piss-a-beds, since they are a bit diuretic. However this effect is much stronger in yellow varieties.
