300mm FF equivalent or longer only.

more zoom range less quality as a general rule may not hold up as well as it used to with modern mirrorless first party lenses but it definitely holds up with scamron

get yourself a better lens than that. with these fuck off huge tiny bird lenses bokeh quality does matter a bit because at f/11 it's still 3/4s of the image.

Wrong take in this instance. Generally, sure. But in reality, that tamron is a good modern lense and will be a massive upgrade in every way, the sony kit lenses are dogshit.
Size, weight, and price wise, it's probably the best choice for you at the moment, but long term you're probably better off choosing full-frame lenses, as it makes no sense at all to shoot a crop-sensor sony.
>if you're happy with a small, light, cheap camera with mid IQ, get it, if you're aiming higher then keep saving and skip the middleman

Yep, mostly I know. I would go for an a7cII but it's expensive. =( Moreover I would drop to 15 MP cropping to aps-c so I would need to change all my lenses:

Sigma 30 f/2.8 -> Sony 50 f/1.8 -> 200€ NICE!
Samyang 12 f/2 manual -> sony 14mm f/1.8 or Laowa 10mm f/2.8 -> 1400€ or 800€ FUCK
Sony 20 f/2.8 small pancake -> Samyang 35 f/2.8 -> 200€ ok, for pocketability
Sony 55-210 f/4.5-6.3 -> Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 > *-450mm f/high in FF -> a kidney ç_ç
I have some other toy lenses that I love, like the 7Artisans 7.5 fish, that I will not be able to move to FF.

Moreover the lenses would be way bigger.

But I'm really open to any suggestion, even in canon or nikon.

While it is nice to have full frame, it does have its advantages, I wouldn't get that hung up about sticking with APS-C. It's still very capable, you've got sensor performance only a stop behind the better of the full frame DSLRs and no one was complaining about those, and those didn't have IBIS and the AF sucked in comparison. And you also have a legitimate reach advantage with crop sensors unless you were comparing an old low res sensor to a modern high res full frame.

the sony 70-350 is pretty good for being so small.
I wouldn't feel the pressure to jump to full frame, APS-C is great for birding.

why f14? Couldn't you reach the hyperfocal distance at more like f8? maybe even less? The grain kinda nukes that image and makes it harder to correct colors, not to mention you are probably losing sharpness by f14

So it was made for large format, I assume all the things attached to the back leading to a 35mm camera are additions to shrink the image circle to 35mm?
Sounds like the original lens was made for big film and the rest of that shit is added later.

What's the equivalent focal length?

hmmm apparently coatings were invented in 1935 but didn't get popular in Europe until after the war with Zeiss T* but wasn't common in Japan until the 60s... you know we kinda nuked and occupied them and all that. So I doubt it has any, and explains the very white veiling flare. 914mm-fag pls take a photo facing away from the sun/light, i'm curious. Where was it made???

Mine isn't branded but it looks very similar to ones listed as Dallmeyer (although those also don't say that on them, so not sure where the sellers are getting that info from) and those would be British. It was very overcast that day so that's about as good as it's gonna get. Here's the best photo I could get of the inside of the front element, the darker regions being what appears to be the coating that has been rubbed away towards the centre of the lens and then in patches where fungus possibly was.

No they don't, they're spun up really fast at the airport and keep their rotation via inertia. That's why they have limited flight times. They control lift by angling the props.

Asking ITT since gear thread isn't responsive:

I can cop a like new (barely used, in box) Tamron 150-600mm lens for $800. Should I do it? I only have a 70-300mm kit lens and feel like I could just be a little closer sometimes when birding or whatnot. I could also trawl ebay for cool telephotos. I have a d3400, for reference, and a d850 that I'm kind of afraid to use yet until I get better.

The currency probably matters, as does whether it's a g1 or g2 version of the lense. It's a reasonable quality item, but also very large & heavy and common, so boomers buy them, realise they're too old to hold/carry them, and will let them go cheap because money is meaningless to them.
I paid 550 AUD for my G1 in nikon mount, but I think I did particularly well.
