>>4214795The rangefinder lens design look, which is wide to normal lenses that are extremely sharp and well corrected well open. For a long time, due to a lack of advanced technology, this was inaccessible to most SLR users because only telephotos could use the most consistently good lens designs like the zeiss sonnar thanks to the mirror box occupying what would have contained most of the pieces of glass responsible for leica's image quality. The sonnar would only be used for portrait lenses, ie, 85mm+.
That look was only really a leica exclusive thing for a few decades, very good outlier lenses for SLRs here and there aside. When optics design advanced a little further and we started using computer aided design, it was easier to consistently produce lenses for SLRs in the wide-normal range that were sharp wide open. They were a bit large, of course, so "leica look" went from referring to how the pictures looked, and started referring to how the dweeb holding the camera looked. Small camera smaller lens, medium sized camera medium sized lens.
Then mirrorless cameras came out, meaning lens designs typical of rangefinders are now everywhere. Real photographers wanted aperture and AF motor drives in their lenses so the lenses remained large looking for the small cameras. Leica decided not to include any of this, resulting in more proportionate and fashionable devices.
Now the only reason anyone buys a leica is to be seen holding a leica. The leica look is this and only this. An unimpressive poser, holding a smallish camera with an even smaller, very narrow/short lens. The lens hood is ideally a square shape and the strap ought to be narrow and leather. You can get it by buying a fujifilm and some accessories.
And that makes "leica men" a bit angry so I recommend you do it.
