This is more like insecurity from people who derive their own worth from material possessions. A common ailing in America. It's "keeping up with the Joneses", internet version. A rat race with no winners because there's always going to be someone somewhere who's better off than yourself, unless you're Elon Musk in 2021.
And then again, there's a number of things that I'm sure Elon envies in poorer people.
