I have a Nikon D5500 as a first DSLR and it was a tough choice. I thought mirrorless was going to be my first serious camera, but when I compared sizes between APS-C sensors, the Fuji X-A5 series and the Sony A6000's there wasn't that much a difference in body size.
With DSLR's, I don't have to worry about battery life.
The phase detect autofocus is pretty good
There's a good amount of lenses available.
They're easier to handle telephoto lens.
I'm putting in money into a system which retains value.
I know I'm giving up video, but that's okay.
