I don't know how/why they fucked it up, it was worse than the A7 and is the black sheep in the lineup. If you're looking at the A7ii you might as well look at crop sensors. The A7ii noise performance and sharpness is about the same as apsc (picrel).
If you want to be in FF E-mount you do not want to buy before the third generation. Not unless your budget is extremely tight. Prior to gen III they had bad AF, shit ergonomics, poor color science, off sensor flare artifacts, lossy RAWs, star eaters, and if it's the A7ii, a FF sensor with apsc performance. Even with gen III they have shit weather sealing.
