>>4277085>mirrorless isnt compact. proof: i am comparing a highly corrected apochromatic prime to a standard double gauss prime.its not that mirrorless is big
its that nikon refuses to make small primes that arent shit on purpose, and only makes yuge f1.8 primes that are fully corrected for as many aberrations as current tech can correct for.
also see: canon refuses to make small bodies and good small lenses because they believe the future of high end canon cameras is sports photography with giant zooms, wedding photography with f1.0 primes wide open, and basically nothing else
yes, a 50mm lens will always stick out a bit, but this is closer to like-to-like. 1200g total to 800g total. the f2.5 G is pretty contrasty edge to edge wide open, and theoretically if sony made it a little more shit it could have been even smaller (like leica's super small 50mms). the old nikkor 50mm f1.8 is not "sharp" edge to edge under f5.6, the z mount one is.
you can examine how much you think it was worth it using this webpage. its literally just a little less contrast. remember this is a test chart, real subjects always look way sharper than test charts, and lenses usually get sharper if you focus them closer to infinity while test charts are shot when close focusing.

now that you understand something about lenses, you can realize when you are being scammed into overpaying for giant shit of no practical consequence. protip: thats basically all the fucking time. the af-s f1.8 is FINE unless you want to use it to scan books.
