Have used both extensively and I'd pick the R1 again and again.

Ya, the LCDs die...but all you miss out on is the frame counter. Mine has been intermittent for a year (sometimes it's perfect, sometimes barely anything shows up) and it doesn't bother me or affect my shooting at all.
