what would attribute to noticeable grain size difference from photos from a Pentax K1000 and a Canon FTb with the same film, being developed and scanned from the same developer?

Shutter curtain doesnt move anymore..it winds forward after each shot but shutter curtain stays the same.
Put a film inside, shot few rolls, changed lens from 90 to 45 and notices no shutter curtain :(
What do ? Any advice ?
I checked shutteecount like 3 years ago it was at 17k. I have this camera for 8 years

I think this would have been better if you were like 20-30 degrees more to the left (clockwise) of the subjects. The statues should have been the focus with the people looking at it in the foreground. I think it would have looked even nicer with a (small) bit of depth-of-field blurring the people, but that can be tricky to pull off depending on the camera you’re using (e.g. with a rangefinder)

I'd drop the 14 eur film retriever. we have like a dozen at the college lab and never ever touch them. it's easier to use a strip of unprocessed film to get the leader out.

also, I'd add a wetting agent for the final wash, like kodak photo-flo or whatever the ilford equivalent is named.

Super grainy look. But it's more what you should know before shooting. The older film is the less sensitive to light it is going to be. There is a formula that gives you a number of stops you should overexpose, if I'm not mistaken

Hello /p/oggers,

I drunkenly purchased a Smena 8m from the borderlands and It had two cartridges (weirdly seems to have been popular in the east but I can find few mentions of it in the burgersphere) with film in them.

I unloaded them and rolled the film onto a spare empty cassette I had. The base is dark grey to black and the emulsion is grey. It kind of looks like Fomapan but that's just a guess.

Do you have any ideas how I should develop this film considering that
1. I have no idea what film it is
2. I have no idea how old it is (obviously newer than 1989)
3. I have Benzotriazole 1% antifog
4. I have Rodinal and Atomal.

Open to opinions

I've read in the past a recommendation to use a high-contrast developer in addition to an antifog additive. Do you have any paper developer? That, mixed to some concentration, plus the AF should work fast enough that any base fog that's developed won't have time to show itself properly. Contrast will be high and shadow detail limited.
I guess experiment with some new film. Expose it to low-level light and then shoot it normally. See what you can get out of it.

Don't have any paper developer. If I choose to stand develop (With rodinal) does the Benzotriazole just slow the development, or does it run the risk of neutralizing the developer altogether?

are Wein cells the way to go for replacing old mercury cells? I'm seeing mixed feedback online - they have the same 1.35 voltage as the old cells compared to 1.5V for non-wein batteries

in general, people say they get 6 months out of them but i never got more than 2 months (i have tried them 5 times, most recently fall 2021) you're better buying a good light meter app (some of the free ones are fine i think) or saving up for an actual dedicated meter.

A bit of motion blur ruined this shot and not too sure why as it wasn't even that windy and my tripod is always pretty sturdy. Happened to about half the shots on the roll but oh well.

aright guys be honest how long does it take you to print?

I was trying to do a set of five shots from a trip for a friend, and it took me like 4 hours to get a final copy of each.

I feel dumb.

How to get inspired to shoot film outside US/EU? Vast majority of good and highly liked photos acrosss SM are general pics of american houses, cars, gas stations, famous locations and etc. Somewhat less popular pics are from Europe and again - old cars, famous or comfy places, situations that highlight the location.
Nature is the most obvious thing to shoot, however I personally don't like to take photos of overused subjects like beach/sea or endless boring trees, especially when this is all I can get in my city which is just an old commieblock region. Travelling may be a good solution to diverse subjects however I can't due to current situation in Eastern Europe. So I think I'll stick with portraits for now, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Maybe then I'll come up with something to finally try CineStill 800t that I think will expire untouched - absolutely no idea what to shoot with it since I don't have 99% of most used scenes for this film around me.

90 % of the photos on my last roll are either:

I edit before I print. Not to adept with cloning and stamping yet in PS either. It's stuff like the lamppost on the right and the lady with the blue coat and Lidl bag that you necessarily can't crop away before starting to crop lady with red and white, and the one in green and white stripes. Long story short I saw the series on film manufacturing of Smartereveryday and it made me want to give another shot to photography, which I tried like 5 years ago with my father's old camera. Back then I paid a roll of 135 something like 3~4€, but now the same roll of crappy kodak colorplus 200 goes for about double that. What the fuck? I thought that with film getting popular again it would benefit from economy of scale.

That said, it's hard to come by good cold war stuff because it's either tucked away in some more or less inaccessible military base, or has been outright scrapped, or because it's not old enough for europeans to care: if you like WWI for instance there's a museum at every corner because it's old enough and had a huge direct impact on the population, but the Cold War isn't and didn't. I do believe that Base Tuono, that's the name of the museum, is the only in Europe to display those missiles.

Anyway, take another from that set, this has been scanned with my printer so the quality is what it is.

Thanks, here's another one which I particularly like even though I couldn't frame it better (I wanted the missiles to blend in with the forest more, but there was no way to achieve that). I wish I could visit places like that every other week. Beside the fact that I literally have no idea on what I'm doing and can't tell good photos from bad photos, one of the reasons why I dropped photograpy is that I hardly go outside anymore after I broke up, and where I live is one of the dullest place with nothing interesting to capture.

I wouldn't recommend 2.5k waist-level camera if you haven't try it yet. It's a bit uncomfortable for the brain to use. I know people who sold TLRs after shooting 1 roll.

i took some shitty photos with a kodak duaflex i found for 8.99 in the thrift shop
they're much less overexposed and blurry in real life, i scanned them with a 15 year old flatbed using a piece of paper and an ipad as a backlight
as someone who has no photography skill or knowledge though i am pleased with how most of them turned out, next i will try some 35mm in my minolta camera

False. You can use slow film, and should do if you want your night pics to be super clean. All long exposure though, so all tripod.

new filters: 20
trays: 15-30 depending on how big you want to print
safelight (e.g. an RGB LED strip): 15
consumables (paper, dev, fixer, stop bath): 35+
stuff to make your room actually dark: depends
so ~200-250€ in total

i shoot iso 1 film all the time, never get the vomit inducing trepidation our anon got. point n shits are great with low iso film, because theyre compact like little bricks you can glue to your skull for stab and got zero mirror or whatever vibration. slrs on slow shutter always get that trembling from the weight of the whole thing and the lens always pushing forward. take the point n shoot or rangefinder pill, parkinson anon.

Probably not, but why would you want leave some dope smoking kid with a digital minilab in charge of your prints?

Scan and send the files to a real lab instead, and you can have whatever size you want. If you print a lot, just buy your own printer.
