And 90% of medium format images are a crop of big 53x40mm medium format sensors in the $60k bodies. And even those are a crop of actual medium format film. Lenses project the same amount of light no matter what size sensor is behind it. The images just look so different because different focal lengths are needed for the same image. So medium format needs a more telephoto lens with the compression for the same composition of a m43 image. A portrait on m43 with a 25mm vs a portrait on a medium format with a ~65mm would have to be used for the same composition standing in the same spot. Also why a medium format wide angle won’t have as harsh angle distortion because they can use a 35mm lens vs m43 using a 12mm lens for the same composition in the same spot. When I say medium format I’m referring to the common Fuji GFX size not the larger 53x40mm big boys.
