>>257507435mm would be a bit too tight for most handheld (it's considered wide on a FF sensor, not S35/APSC/Crop).
Next alternative at that price point (below $500) is the 10-18mm f4.5-5.6, the zoom function is useless for video but it has IS and is wide enough to work much much better for handheld/shoulder rig shooting. Runs about $300 new (one up on Keh for $268).
The 24-105mm f4L is quite good though for a wide zoom - though it deals with the infinite-focus ring issue
Pro Tip:If your focus ring goes past infinity/below minimum, spin it to infinity & place a small piece of paper tape over the FF gear to prevent it from going past infinity, & a piece of tape on the gear over where minimum focus is to prevent focusing below minimum (you're essentially adding a hard stop).
>>2575003My feeling regarding art films is that they tend to be more or less style over substance - it sounds weird but they tend to indulge the director over telling the story, as well as not really having much of a story (style for the sake of style rather than for the story).
How they Get Funded:
A) Private Funding
B) Beg/Borrow/Steal [& crowdfunding]
C) Shot on such a low-budget that investors are willing to throw it away for the sake that they like the script/idea
>>2574895Matte boxes are a "if you need it" kind of thing - it's particularly needed if you're using Cine Glass as most of them do not run threaded filters (it also serves as a small bit of extra protection for the glass).
If you're using stills glass+threaded filters, the lens hood performs the same function.
In addition, what may help you focus more precisely is keeping your eye on the subject - not the lens/focus ring/FF Ring (makes it easier to focus in pace with your subject).
I agree with what you say, but to add to it - don't let art get in the way of telling the story.
