I live is a very touristy area. Recently we have a huge influx of Chinese..literally today I saw 5 ching chongs with Leica's and shooting snapshits and selfies. One was some mum pointing it about like a point and shoot...another was a fucking 6 year old with pic related. How does it feel for you Leica fags that your special brand is now becoming undervalued thanks to Chans?

Yep. This is an everyday sight in Boston. Bugs with Leicas, Canada Goose jackets, those huge glasses that Asians seem to like, the works. Good for Leica though, that's a great market to capture. They view everything as disposable so they'll just keep buying whatever re-branded Panasonic garbage Leica keeps pumping out.

Leica owners say they are worth it because they spent 12k on a camera and lens that cant keep up with the DSLR thats half the price. You cant complain when you spend that much.

NGL if I wanted to waste $5k on photography, the Q2 is what I'd probably get. P/S size with lots of megapickles, stabilization, good menu system. If that faggot was even $2k I'd buy it over whatever FF mirrorless combo.

However, it's $5k not because of its quality but because less volume produced and sensor technology they can't rent from others, so they have to get back their research money. Canon makes their own but are already huge so they can keep their costs down - but still are probably overpriced compared to similar offerings. Other manufacturers just use Sony sensors so they don't have to recoup R&D costs.

The Leica Q2 is weather sealed 47mp full frame with a 28mm 1.7 lens for less than £4k. The lens destroys any retrofocal wide on any SLR as well as any toy Sony put out.

How can any Leica film camera be any better than another film camera?

As long as the lens focuses, and there are no light leaks, what does the body do in a Leica film that others wouldn't? Serious question. There is no processing that takes place, no ISO, no anything. The film is what does everything. So if you put the same film in a different camera, wouldn't you achieve identical results?

Yes, you would. Leica's viewfinders are very bright and clear, with nice, contrasty rangefinder patches. The bodies feel solid and their shutters do have a very quiet, satisfying "snick" sound.

Will any of that make your photos better? No. A Minolta CLE or one of the modern Voigtlanders have better meters and sell for a lot less, but they don't have that solid Leica feel. Leica bros will bloviate about how their gear "inspires them to go out and shoot," but realistically their camera spends more time in their $500 Billingham bag while they conspicuously write poetry at the local, fair trade, certified organic coffee shop. The average Leica owner's Instagram has more photos of their gear than photos taken with their gear.

All that said, I got to play with a pristine M6 once and it made me wet, so I understand the faggotry on a primal level.

My M7 has better trigger pull, smoother wind, a brighter and nicer viewfinder, a sharper rangefinder with better viewing angles, and a TTL hotshoe. Its shutter is also mechanically so slow and vibration-dampened that 1/8s shots sometimes come out sharp enough to print, where on another body I'd make the tradeoff for less depth of field. Its film loading method is also practically error-free, or at least makes all errors obvious from the first frame.

These features are of course not worth the $3k spot price it'd go for today.

OP here..I lIve in Oxford actually. Noticed an increasing trend of Chinese over the summer months. Im quite wealthy and own my own home and wouldn't buy a Leica. My point is none of these Chinese cunts are using Leica's in any decent capacity (fucking selfies...really?!) they're just (as someone pointed out) using the red dot as a status symbol. I find it amusing that many Leica fags I know act like their camera is the ultimate one to own..a luxury item. But considering how Ching chang soccer mums are snapping away with them..they're as about as luxury as a Yi cam.

Even digital Ms have become consumer goods. If you want to pretend you're a very avid photographer, you can get that awesome pre-brassed Kravitz edition, or let some of the ching chongs do a repaint with some bad color, so it brasses as fast as possible.
I shoot with a Leica btw.

it's the ultimate street photography camera, and street photography is nothing but snapshitting on a grand scale. street needs a creeper camera that will last for 100s of thousands of frames because no street photographer has talent or can compose a shot, they just rely on the law of averages (if they shoot enough, eventually they will get a good shot.)
even the so called "greats", Winogrand was basically the Chosis of his time.

This certainly, but you also have to consider that Leica these days is essentially a luxury brand that has halo products (essentially the M leicas, which are still well engineered if a bit silly) to sell cheapish consumer products (everything else).

It's not that much different from luxury fashion labels like Chanel that use their hand-made high fashion to sell cheapish branded rags.

I guess at least with classic Leicas you still have a pretty good resale market.

I feel for this meme and bought a CLA'd Fed 1 with a new shutter and very clean looking glass. It was the biggest turd I've ever had the misfortune of shooting with. I believe the shop did the work, but it was the equivalent of a Ford Pinto restored to its original glory. Everything felt rough and unrefined, the bottom barely fit, every roll I shot had scratches, and once it even ripped a roll of Fomapan. Put that $70 you're thinking about spending in the bank until you can afford something better.

I used to work at a rather large camera store in Germany for some time back in 2013 and have experienced the influx of Chans and Zhangs traveling across Germany holding their Leicas in front of everyone as well.

I asked many of them why they want to purchase a Leica instead of Canon, Nikon, Sony and so on and most of them told me that it was all about prestige. In China, Leica is known as a German company thats providing products of superior quality. Businessmen usually bought the M, upper middle class people the X1/2 and the lower middle class people the rebranded Panasonic cameras.

A rebranded Panasonic, you say? One might think it would matter to them, but it didn't. As long as there was a red Leica dot on both the camera and on the screen, all of them were satisfied. And thats where Leica makes most of their money.

None of my FED's ever did any of that stuff, I actually got fairly decent results out of my FED-5c and 2b

They do take some finesse to use but once you learn the ins and outs they're quite fun.
