is this lens worth saving? I can't find much about it online, but I think it's a kit lens for a Minolta Dynax 300si. some of the zen coating is coming off and it's a bit sticky, but seems easy enough to get off, just don't know if it's worth the trouble

So guys, I'm thinking of getting smaller second camera to put in my pocket or bag and carry with me whenever I don't want or just can't lug bigger camera with me. Basically I've narrowed it down to few models I think wouldn't break a bank (I'd say around 700 usd would be my limit)
>Fujifilm X100F - somewhat big, would fit in my bag or jacket pocket though
>Ricoh GR III - no viewfinder
>Canon G5 X Mk II - pop-up EVF, dunno if it's good or not

Found this Canon IVY REC Digital Camera on sale for 50 bucks

This reminds me a lot of a camera I used to own: it was a USB A stick camera. It had a little plastic wheel covering the lens part and you would turn it to "turn it on"

Mine was white with orange accent. I owned it back in early 2000's so it probably was only 1-2 mpx

If anyone knows what it was, let me know. I can't for the life of me find it by any search

desu, not easy to choose, but narrow it down further. how pocketable you want it to be, preferred sensor size, zoom vs prime (28 or 35), EVF, video use, snapfocus/snapmode feature, built in flash, stabilization, touchscreen and lastly, how much you want to save costwise, buy used?

other cameras:
XF10 no EVF, has built in flash, has 2m, 5m snapmode, same sensor IQ as GRIII
ZV1 no EVF but with latest Sony AF pdaf
RX100VA pdaf, no touchscreen
LX10/15

Well, to be perfecty honest, most of those I listed have 1" sensor (LX100 mk II has MFt they crop a bit IIRC) so I guess that'd be around the desired size. I think I should've specified, I was looking camera mainly for stills, so video capabilities aren't really a priority to me. Also as far as I'm considered, I don't really need touch UI as long as the user interface works okay. From what I've heard, Sony cameras for example have confusing/annoying UI, which makes me kinda wonder. Also snap focus isn't really important to me either, I'd guess. But thank you for your input, you've given me at least couple of good options there, anon.

x100f is pretty big and heavy in that list. Mft cams with a regular 25mm f1.8 are smaller and lighter. Look at those and xf10 as well. You get very good optics and evfs with the former.

I'm in a similar boat to that other anon, but I already have an RX100 VII. Should I stick with it or switch it for a similar portable Canon? Apparently the colours are better and the image quality is better, but I'm not sure if I'm being bamboozled by marketing bullshit

I'd stick with the RX100VII, the AF should be top notch. Canon uses 1 inch Sony sensor but only with contrast detect, though they have the f1.8 lens at the wide end.

Z5 for photo, A6400 for video. If you need only one then the Z5.

That one is going to be an expensive mofo. most likely out of your budget range.

Your original idea of a sub 1000 dollar APS-C is the one that gives the most bang for the buck.

Ah ok, I thought it was just going to be a refresh of sorts. Makes more sense that way. A6400 + Sony 50f1.8 + Tamron 17-70? Or would the 50 not be needed with the Tamron? Might also be one of those things I won't even notice at my current level. I only ever shot with the kit lens and nikkor dx primes.

Interesting, that thing is even more battery hungry than the XT30 which is considered to be highly inefficient already.

So it looks like your definition of "better" comes with a ton of pitfalls, such as less dynamic range, less battery life, more overheating.
