Shot for the first time this one, it does seems like i could enjoy it on everything
here's me doing the classic "see through the WLVF selfie" with a fucked up dev (ran out of stop bath so i had to rince with water and fix directly, hence the "sparkly" dots)

i live in new haven county, and that picture was at the milford train station (i had 2 shots left in the roll and get my stuff developed at milford photo, which is like a 2 minute walk away from the station)
i pretty much shoot all over connecticut. its a beautiful state.

pushed a roll of fomapan 100 +3 stops (800 iso) yesterday. going to develop it in rodinal 1+49 for 23mins. i hope i still have a shred of shadow detail left with some fat grain and punchy contrast. results soon

2: I only tried it once with Ferrania P30 and I like it. Pic related.

Of course I do my man. And no, I don't believe they will introduce 67m3 now or 5 years later. It is marathon, not a sprint, and burn tones of money to create medium format camera in 2022 is not a good bus-in-ass plan.

I have only used a 50 mm f/1.8 lens with my Canon A-1.

What cheap FD lens would you recommend me getting for:

1. the street photography meme
2. portraits

preferably ones that can be had for under 50 euro on ebay (and in a petri dish condition).

I am considering getting a 135 mm f/3.5 S.C. (the f/2.5 is overpriced as usual) for portraits, any thoughts?

With that budget you’d probably only be able to get a 135mm anyway for portraiture range. That 135mm is pretty good iirc, outperforms the equivalent Pentax-m lens.

Finally got some time to scan the negatives from the test roll of the Seagull. Ilford HP5

Those marks, are drying marks right? I am not sure what I fucked on the development but also the film has a bit of a purple tint. Is one of the chemicals going bad?

Also any recommendation while scanning with Vuescan to scan B&W? Do I need to be specific with the film vendor?

I get what you were trying to go for with the composition and framing but it just doesn't seem interesting to me. I would have walked forward until that bridge at the top was no longer in frame, so you can capture the plants/trees and not have them cut off. And possibly aiming the camera upwards a little to get the ceiling in it while also placing emphasis on the plant at the bottom of their stairs, I think that plant and how it's intertwined is much more interesting than the bridge/walkway it just seems to really gimp the flow of the photo. My eyes naturally go from the bottom and follow up the stairs and then it just gets blocked by that walkway thing.

i did some bracketing shooting my first roll of APX400. I tried 200, 320, 400, 800 and 1600. 320 is my preferred rating for it, but 200 prints better since it looks flatter overall. if you’re gonna scan i’d do 320-400. ill post some shots tomorrow when im on my computer

It is possible to print C41 negs onto B&W paper but the results are variable and usually not great.

If you print onto VC paper (the kind where you control the contast with filters) the orange/brown base of the film acts like a low contrast fiter. Additionally, C41 negs are usually lower contrast than B&W anyway in terms of maximum density.

If you got some fixed grade 5 paper that was sufficiently sensitive to the orange light you could make it work. Depends how much you want to experiment.

the only reason i pay my lab to dev + scan (dev im gonna start at home because pushing at the lab costs too much) is time, i dont want to be spending like an hour scanning a roll and making fine tuned adjustments and making sure the film holder lines up perfectly and all that shit but im happy doing that for the 1-2 decently good images ill get in a roll

no, i cant remember the exact numbers but people on youtube test it all the time and the true resolution is like 3000x2000 (honestly fine for online probably) but get the chinese 60mm macro from one of the artisans companies (cant remember but its name but people say good things) a tripod and use your x-s10, that's perfect for scanning negatives.

Did stand development first time. HP5 in Rodinal 1+100 @ 75 minutes.

dont bulk roll HP5, its only a fraction cheaper than buying it on rolls, and if you value your time at more than 10 bucks per hour, its gonna be more expensive than just buying it normally. go for something like fomapan 100 instead, its cheap and criminally underated. takes a 3 stop push no problem

hmm, good point. I don't have a reference for how many 36 rolls I could get from a 100' bulk. a YouTube video I watched said about 18 if you're not wasteful. which comes to $6.50/roll

I haven't tried fomapan yet but it seems like several anons here like it. assuming 18 rolls can come from a bulk, we're looking at $4.44/roll.

I would've loved to see this shot on Fuji Superia 400 instead, the greens would've popped more and looked more natural in general and I think the red coat would've contrasted better. having natural looking clouds in the back wouldn't take your eye directly to the center of the photo.

Shots from a super xp2 roll I took that was already in the k1000 I got donated
Some of these are a bit fucked but otherwise okay, you should see the other roll.
This is the first time shooting film and not much longer after my start with photography in general
Colour film is hard to come by where I am, basically only gold 200 unless I want to pay almost double or more for something else

What's a good film for bw to learn on?
I heard super xp2 allows for pulling/pushing on the roll without doing it to everyshot or something but idk if I care about doing either just yet before I manage to not fuck up focus/exposure on basic shots first

I feel like I missed focus on a lot of these, I've found it kind of tricky to focus with the k1000 compared to my Om-2n
Kind of reticent to put another roll through the olympus, I had a lot of instances of mirror lockup during shooting, I assume something to do with low light because I replaced the lightmeter battery so it shouldn't be that, only seems to happen when set to auto.

Normal conditions, it's a general rule because everyone has some degree of vibration to their body even if they think hold the camera perfectly still and a longer lens exaggerates camera movements. Actually raise your shutter speed even more if you have noticeably shaky hands, and use a tripod, a table, or shoot very carefully for everything lower.

Kentmere is Ilford's "budget" line. I actually pushed HP5 a stop my second roll and never went back to box speed, it's way too gray and flat imo. a one or two stop push give it a great contrast and the extra grain, while noticeable, isn't too overwhelming compared to box speed

technically "pushing" is done on the dev side but I guess the biggest mistake is people forget to tell their lab to push/pull how ever many stops that they under/overexposed by

Short exposure reciprocity failure but only pushed fomapan 100 is shitty enough for you to realistically encounter the need to overexpose a little if the shutter speed goes past 1/1000.

How do I take a nature/landscape picture that's good enough quality to print at about a3 size? I have:
- 1 x Pentax p30 with chink 50mm lens
- 1 x canon ftb with 50mm and 80-200mm lenses
- 1 x roll of portra
- 1 x manfrotto tripod
- 1 x shutter release cable
- 1 x iPhone (newish don’t know generation but bought this year)

this is my complete guess, having only ever printed once on a3 (but the film was 6x9 and drum scanned)
1. shoot at f8 or f11 (depends on lens) for max sharpness
2. you have to use tripod + release cable to make sure there is 0 shake/movement
3. get it drum scanned (costs more)
4. shoot a low iso film for less grain
5. shoot adox cms 20 if you want insane sharpness
3 to 5 are optional. dont forget that you wont be looking at the a3 print up close. doing at least 1 and 2 with your portra should be good enough. i would aim towards your canon with 50mm, old zooms and chink lenses are probably worse than the 50mm in terms of sharpness.

sir you are looking for the fuji GW690. 90mm f3.5 incredibly sharp. leaf shutter. no electronics and incredibly simple to use.
