Is doing photography worth it in 2023?
Job options for photographers are virtually non-existant. It's extremely hard to sell your work or your photos.
Being an amateur photographer also sucks because apart from Instagram there are almost no places where you can publish your photos and get to know other amateurs.
Also almost anyone is photographer these days because of smartphone in their pocket.
I see less and less reasons to shoot photos and I'm considering quitting photography.

Professional photography has never been a realistic career goal. It's like wanting to be a professional musician, if your passion isn't big enough to override the logic that it's basically impossible then you shouldn't even try.

Twitter has a huge and tightly knit photography community. Also forums. Also local clubs and community darkrooms. Every city has a community of artists and photographers who would be happy to get to know you if you can suck up the courage to introduce yourself. And if you can't find a community of artists then there's always bird nerds.

Maybe part of the problem here is that you're unable to distinguish your own photography from cellphone snapshits. If that's the case then either you need to take more pictures or find a different hobby.

Art shouldn't be something that you do for attention. It should be something you do as a method of self expression. The activity is the joy.

Fellow photographers say I'm good, I do mostly medium format analog photography, and high end digital photography with radio flashes and lots of photoshop.
But normal people nowadays can't distinguish between pro pohotoshoot and their own smartphone snapshots.
Noone gives a fuk about photography so why bother?

twitter is not a photography portal, forums are dead
there's no such thing ass community darkroom where i live, there's one photo club and they suck ass so dramatically, that I have nothing to do with them

Maybe I have just burned out and that's the end of the road for me

>invested 16k in camera gear (camera, lenses, lights, strobes, tripods, backdrops, softboxes....etc.)
>spent the next year snapshitting around in nature, street and various social events, while also learning art, design, styling and painting basics
>spent a couple months on ig,fb and other socials DMing and hunting down anyone who is looking for a photographer

took me less than 3 years to get at least some money by taking pictures and about 3 years in my first client that contacted me wanting me to be their photographer. also keep in mind that out of those 3 years i spent one year saving up and one year learning so actually it took me less than a year if you want to look at it that way.
