Everytime I pixel peep raw samples from cameras I want to buy, they just look like phone photos when they're not in perfect studio lighting. Kinda wanted to upgrade to full frame mirrorless but these shots dont look better enough to warrant it. What do? (yea ik xpro isnt FF)

seeing all the detail in a photo does not make it good, it just makes it a high detail shit photo
if sharpness and resolution is the number 1 thing you care about, you should be buying a Leica S mount/fuji GFX/hassleblad/phase one

No, I'm really happy with my photos at thumbnail size. I should have been more specific my bad. I mean when I look at the quality of the pictures on a pixel peep level, even on full frame cameras I just feel like I'm looking at a phone picture.

Yeah would love one lol. I'm no pro tho so I feel stupid dumping that much money into a hobby. I'm really quite torn.

you should be asking yourself why you need to do this, and why does it matter?

Haha I am. I'm really not sure, I just like looking at high res images. Part of what I like to do is make images that could be a PC wallpaper, and I feel disappointed when the sharpness/IQ isn't perfect or if the image isn't large enough.

joking aside, you should try out something like topaz ai that can 'upscale' your photos and sharpen them even more. that might scratch your itch without having to buy a whole new camera/system

Nothing ever looks really good at 100% and you shouldn’t expect it to. Most people get used to it. If you care, downsize your photos to 50% before posting where anyone can pixel peep them.
At 100% you are down where you can see the effect of the CFA.

When you pixel peep you are applying an extreme crop. Small sensors are ALWAYS nothing more than crops of larger sensors with mp*cropfactor^2 megapixels. If you have a 42mp sony, the phone sensor sized crop is 42 / 4.56^2 = 2.06 megapixels. Lol.

So you are essentially looking at a phone sensor photo with like, 2 megapixels. Zoom out. Granted, a 42mp phone takes photos that look worse than a 12mp full frame, but that’s a whole essay.

FYI:
The standard resolution for a photo is 300 to 250 dots per inch
The resolution of a macbook pro screen is over 250 dots per inch
The typical resolution of a poorfag computer (ie: winshit, linvirgin) is ~150 dots per inch

If you are pixel peeping on a shit screen, you are viewing your photos at 200% crop.

100% around 250dpi or more should look amazing or your lens/skill/camera is shit (ie: you are a fuji user). Problems only occur when you are a windows user or viewing photos in a web browser that forces windows compatible densities. If you save the picture on a good computer AKA an apple computer they will look amazing because the pixel density is the same as a print. This is why canon cameras with OLPF/AA filters are the best - only windows users would call them soft, but mac users and people who print (same group, windows and linux users are never good artists) just see sharp photos without moire. However on a mac you can still see fuji worms and blocky xtrans noise so I recommend sticking with canon + apple.

The biggest thing shooting high mp cameras has done for me, is make me not care about high mp, enough to even sell off my GFX kit. More is better, but I definitely value other camera aspects way more. For a lot of what I do, I deliver at 20mp anyways which is still large enough for most applications, but makes nearly anything look great at 100%. Biggest impact high mp models changed me was being a lot more aggressive with cropping.

Honestly, the only cameras I've used that have really impressed me when looking at 100% were the Sigma DP3M, and M10-M (picrel is 100% crop with a mediocre lens).

Is this a problem for you hi-res people?
I've never owned a camera with more than 24mp and I don't think the 1:1 crops look all that bad if they are in focus and taken at a reasonable ISO
