I've always wanted to try instant film but current choice of instant film cameras always seem like they have something wrong with them or they're overpriced

It has some problems.

They like to die from undiagnosable reasons, Fuji doesn't make them anymore and they aren't getting cheaper.

Otherwise, it's the best Instax so far.

Instant film is something fun to play around with if you're not concerned with getting that perfect super sharp bokeh shot. I ended up with the mini 90 neo after getting outbid on a SQ6 and I like to take it to conventions and hand the photos out to any cosplayers I photograph.

I have a mini instax (cant remember the year) and its good fun. OFC if you think image quality is the top prio you can just get the instax printer. But that kind of goes against the concept of a pocketable instant camera.

Save up and get a fully manual Mint SLR760. Get a light meter or use an app if you are a poorfag. Get a fucking grey card and use a basic zone system. I wasted money buying cheap auto exposures. Used to waste heaps of film. Now I nail it every time. Example attached

Got one for my wife. It’s a fun little toy. Our house is now covered with instant photos, and they are legitimately charming. Obviously, it’s an extremely limited tool. But fun.
