Help me with a bit of a travel choice dilemma bros. I'm going to Japan tomorrow for 10 days and I'm struggling with which film camera to take with me. Before you ask no I don't even own a digital camera, neither am I interested in renting one.

Choices are a recently CLA'd but personally untested Nikon fm2n with a 35 f2.8 AI.
Or my Canon P with a 50mm f1.4 which I KNOW produces beautiful results...

On paper I know the fm2n might be a good choice because of the lightmeter but I'm honestly comfortable enough at guestimating exposure/using my phone when need be....

Any advice would be appreciated

there's also the issue of lightmeter/no lightmeter. also 35mm vs 50mm. quiet shutter sound vs booty slapping SLR shutters sound

Do you even know what that means?
I'm talking about something like a 24-135. You don't want too short of a lens when trying to capture a landmark.

That's why IMO the best option is a digital that you never move from P.
Don't even think about the amount of light in the scene, just take it in, enjoy it, point the camera and save it.

But anon, thinking about light, composition, taking the time to take the picture IS the fun part of film photography. It adds to the enjoyment of the moment, it doesn't detract, it grounds you to the moment you're trying to capture.

In any case I decided to take both the canon p and the Nikon fm2n and then trade them both In at Kitamura and get a Leica M6 or M7

I had camera trouble on my trip, was able to somewhat fix it but it was still janky and I wasted film. I had it cleaned and fixed when I got back. I wish I had done it before. Go with the camera you trust more anon, it’s shitty when your camera starts fucking up while you’re out exploring.

I used film almost entirely on my trip, mainly used my phones for stuff I immediately wanted to send to people. I am very happy with taking film on the trip (it was to DC and NY), I posted this in other threads but this aspect made the trip a lot more memorable
