And this fucks with the shutter speed and I don't fully understand why and what it does and what to use in certain situations.

Narrow for portraits even F10+ for my landscape photos but this affects my shutter speed how? Can someone explain to this dumb person?

Let's say I want a photo of a train as it moves past without blur does this mean I HAVE TO TO HAVE narrow aperture becuse the aperture will automatically narrow as I move my shutter speed up to 1/500th or whatever?

It's the final frontier on my understanding, at the moment I leave ISO with auto. I've never once come up with a better photo by personally fucking with ISO over my camera's preset...

because aperture affects how much light comes in to your camera and your camera needs to compensate the lack of light by slowing the shutter speed you dumb fuck. Crank up the iso value if you want faster shutter speed with higher aperture value.

Stop thinking in terms of "narrow" and "wider". You're confusing yourself.

Imagine, instead of f/8, it's 1/8. Your aperture is a fraction. As you go from 1/2 to to 1/2.8 to 1/4 to 1/5.6 to 1/8 to 1/11 to 1/16, you're making a smaller fraction and you let less light enter through the lens. To account for less light, you need to leave the shutter open for a longer time.

Your shutter speed is also a fraction, so if one fraction is getting smaller, the other fraction needs to get bigger to maintain the same exposure. It's an additive balance.

For more detail narrow to focus on them, my Ricoh only goes down to F 2.8.

What I am trying to do is F14+ with and ISO under 1000. It's bring shutter speed to about 1/60 which is difficult not to blur holding in hand.

What's kind of the lowest shutter speed you can go while using your hands.

Also how do I do that thing where I take a photo and all the cars are just little lights, I know it's an uber low shutter speed but then what

I've mostly got it by playing around desu, the only issue is the LOW ISO high F stop landscape shot AND how low I can get the shutter speed without blurring.

for landscape I'd use a low f. since I'll probably be focusing on infinity. iso around 400-800
I'd get a tripod for any exposure longer than 1/60.

go to full manual mode and try settings for 5-10 minutes, like change just aperture 5 times and keep taking the same pic out your window or in your room, then just iso then just shutter speed or whatever
or go look at peoples photos with metadata, you can get aperture shutter iso focal len from it

That depends on several things: how stable you can hold you cam, your stance, do you have any support to lean on, etc... Even strong wind will affect sharpness. I'm not very stable so I try to stay faster than 1/30s anyway. Here I leaned on a stone wall and got an acceptably sharp pic at 1/30s and 52mm (eqv.) focal length.

2.8 is wide open on your ricoh lmao, you have the whole thing backwards, so all of this reads hilariously.
If you have the 18mm, you should be able to handhold somewhat reliably to about 1/30 with practice.

Just lean on a wall or something if you can't be bothered bringing a cheap tripod.
If it was burst most you can shoot a burst with the shutter as slow as 1/10th and you could get some that come out perfect.
When you're going that slow tho the movement of people and cars can be an issue.

How are you supposed to red/utilize it? Serious question.

In can perfectly expose my photos and understand how the three aspects affect each other, but i dont understand what the triangle is portraying or how people use it

Cover one edge of the triangle with your hand. The two remaining edges are reciprocal (for typical exposures) — the two values nearest the corner should give a similar exposure to the two values furthers from the corner.

Another way to remember it is each “stop” on your aperture ring is actually a factor of 2 change in light. F2.8 is approximately double the light of f4 in this example (maybe not exact but good enough for eyeballing). So if you open the aperture by one stop, you need to double the shutter speed to only expose for half as much time.
