I hate this practice because when companies stop making those batteries the cameras will be expensive paperweights.
my samsung would be one example of that if there was no 3rd party batteries,

at least with film cameras you could find some alternatives that made them work again.

Genuine (Canon) batteries intended for chink market with shipping included cost half of western market ones and only difference is printed text is in Chinese.
Granted, the not genuine ones are even cheaper but I have had those go bad rather quick and I had one to swell enough to likely damage camera if I had not noticed it early enough.
(It looked like balloon before the case cracked.)

I've had two third party batteries swell and cause a hassle to get out of my camera as a consequence.
Never cheaping out on camera accessories again. Not worth the hassle of when it inevitably fucks up.

Canon either has a battery protocol that third parties cant decode, or purposefully sabotages third party batteries lifespans with disastrous results. Either way every exploding battery story i hear comes from canon.

Yep that pretty much seems to be the case. Third party Canon batteries seem to inevitably swell. Makes me sound like a canon sales rep but I hope others here don't make the same mistake I did, it's not worth almost destroying a camera over.
