But the long term operating cost is lower, if you aren't a low volume shooter. Throw a canon 24mm ts on an a7riii/a7riv, turn on 4 shot pixel shift, and you have your 4x5.
If tilt/shift isn't an issue even some micro four thirds pixel shift implementations get close enough - if you only want the detail.
In other words, it is the niche of niches. It is a REAL niche, not an imagined delusional gearfag one that nobody has wanted since the 5ds r came out (like non-technical MF film cameras), so 4x5 cameras (and technical MF film cameras that also work with MFDBs) are still being made brand new, but it's a small one, exclusive to the people that want more dramatic lens/sensor plane movements.
