Wtf is “medium format look”? It is just low depth of field at a wider angle? Surely you could get the same DoF on FF with a f1 lens?
Is it just a myth?

it's just a more shallow DOF, combined with finer detail from the larger film/sensor. medium format lenses often resolve better than smaller format lenses

Crop (such as,"full" frame) sensors suffer from noticeable problems. For example, more noise at the same ISO, less flexibility with dof (outside of some exotic, often very soft lenses), and diffraction at relatively low f numbers. When printed large the differences are apparent and in my opinion this makes 35mm unsuitable for prints.
