thinking of buying sony a6100 or a6400, budget is of around 1000 usd and itll be mostly used for hobby/travel/birds/ etc. also other suggestions are also welcome

Sony makes the worst crop cameras, their specs look good on paper but they tend to be a chore to use. Also their shutter is louder than a DSLR for some reason.

What do you want to find in the reviews? They are fairly similar, a6100 has plastic body and shittier viewfinder. I do not have a6100, but biggest issues I had with a6000 was no auto iso min ss, no evf/lcd hotkey, no level, and no focus magnifier with AF. I know that at least latter two are fixed in a6100, and suspect auto iso min ss was also just missing due to early firmware.

Actually just checked user manuals, a6100 doesn't have auto iso min ss. If you like to use auto exposure modes and manual lenses, that makes it literally unusable. Avoid that camera, or Sony in general for crippling it in such an annoying and embarrassing way.

snoy doesn't make sense on crop sensors only on full frame, you might want to look at Olympus cameras or (may Allah forgive me for uttering this word) Fuji

Just buy Fuji or go m43. No point at all in Sony and Nikon apsc since they have zero good lenses for their apsc mount. Both are also on ancient sensor.

I've had my a6400 for about a year. I like it a lot. Snoy is the only company making small apsc bodies with viewfinders.

a6100 good for OP then, it's $523 at BH, leaves a lot of money left for lens, not enough for tamron 17-70 or sigma 18-50 though. Would probably fit if sourced from used market instead.
