green box is trying to do something a reasonable photographer would do
i am have no idea what i am doing
i am probably doing something completely incomprehensible
i am often in disagreement with green box and its decisions

I think once you begin to grasp what you like to shoot and how you'd like to shoot, you begin moving away from the AUTO setting. Until then, letting the camera software handle things is fine, as long as you pay attention.

the mode is great when you hand over the cam to someone who's not a camera user. my wife or 3yo kid for example. I tell them "just press the button here" and the cam does the rest.
