Photographers are so obsessed with their gear that they see it as less fradulent to buy a 1000 bokeh master lens than just to go into a digital art program and blur the background a little. Photographers are artistically bankrupt and self obsessed to the point that they think it's more important to provide a "real" photograph (which looks nothing like real life because our eyes are not f/1.2 and we don't perceive backgrounds like that) than a good one.

I hate bokeh on zooms. It’s fine at 50mm or wider as you can still see the background it’s just slightly blurred.

85mm or longer the background just becomes blurred mush and looks boring.

I watched a YouTube video that basically said bokeh id a crutch. Ever since it’s made me sort of appreciate my 28mm f2.8 more since I worry less about bokeh. Still, bokeh looks really nice and automatically makes pics look better.

Annoying. Crutch it aesthetically pleasing?

I tend to agree, like anything it can be overdone or tastefully applied situationally. I think most photos look better around f/4-5.6.

The problem is non artist photographers just use it to make photos of their subject and nothing else. A person is not interesting on their own. A busy background that adds nothing is barely worse. An interesting environment that enriches the subject is good.
