What is the deal with magic lantern? Is throwing that mystery soup on a used Cannon it the key I need to having an absolute bottom-feeder priced 4k video camera that isn't a phone? Is it even "real" 4k?

Not worth the money. It is 4k, but it's 4k for one minute then your camera overheats. These old camera's processors are too weak to do 4k for consistent periods.

But really gx85 got brought up few times here recently, it does convincing 4k video without flashing experimental warez. zve10 from snoy. Ducking anything except canon, really.

GX85 4k is quite decent imho but autofocus is near unusable while shooting. Can "hack" panasonic cinelike-d/v picture profiles for flat shooting though.
