Why is micro four thirds so controversial here? I dont understand the insane amounts of arguments over sensor size. Those m43 threads are more arguing over differences in specs than anything photo related.

Large sensors have several benefits (and in general more benefits than drawbacks), they are "status symbols" cause the whole sistem end up being more expensive and, for many reasons, more rectangular ratios are more apreciated nowadays.

For m it's more a matter of aspect ratio. I like to stay between 3:2, 5:3 and 2:1. So m43 makes no sense to me. An average aps-c is the best for me.
