Developing Taste

No.4276420 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
How do you guys develop a refined taste for photography without taking classes or learning directly from professionals?

Becoming technically proficient in photography seems relatively easy compared to figuring out how to have an eye for it in the first place. I've noticed there's a difference between what I like and what seems to be actual good taste. For example, I enjoy the way a lot of my landscape shots look in 16x9, but I rarely see printed photography in that wide of an aspect ratio. I know there are other aspects of the art form that I'm just ignorant about, and I'd like to learn more. The problem is, I don't know what I'm actually looking to learn. I just know there are things I'm missing.

Do you read books? Watch documentaries or how to videos? How do you refine your palette?
