because japan refuses to innovate and the stills market, lacking prints as large as the silver screen, is already saying "good enough good enough" with 45mp, 14 stop dr FF i see absolutely no reason to purchase anything super high end these days, a fujifilm gfx100s (they're droppung under $4k these days) is probably the most you'll ever need for the biggest prints, "real medium format" is lagging too hard to be distinguished from fuji's MF and canikony FF to be distinguished through anything but price and the skill of the typical user (a local anon proved that MF can easily look worse than an old canon 6d, jussaiyan)

e.g. nikon d850, a 7 year old camera, has the highest dynamic ranges out of all cameras still to this day, being only 0.1 point behind hassy and phase one cameras and yet hassy completely obliterates d850 in both dynamic range and overall image quality. why do you think that is? its because theres more to dynamic range, colors and light than just looking at number ''14.8'' for example (which is the dynamic range of d850)

Sony makes the best cameras and lenses you can get, better than medium format, no one else can compete because no one else can have their best tech. The only people who bitch about anything valid bitch about their price stratification like when they arbitrarily crippled the a7iv/a7cii's framerates to sell the a1 and a9ii/a9iii better. Then again, good photography is not dependent on framerate and never has been. No sony. Because outside of /p/ and some youtube tests from last decade, sony is a reliable brand. People just bitch because they can’t afford their good stuff, just bloated nikon z67/canon r86 entry level ff with bloated lenses.

Camera tech keeps lowering the standard for what a "working" photographer actually has to do. The thing about these WYSIWG, hyper-FPS, AI powered instant autofocus, infinite buffer, flawlessly sharp 45mp cameras is they were not created to help the guy on the sidelines still rocking his 1d for years. They were created to be bought in bulk by press agencies so that one guy could be replaced by 20 temp workers who have never used a camera before. Composition isn't even necessary, just crop that 45mp super sharp photo and it'll still be too high res for the news. Hyper FPS just means another internet is culling and cropping for $7 an hour. Some brands even have a live exposure warning in stills mode so you don't have to tell the temps and interns about the zone system (nikon lacks this feature, sony has had it for years, guess why, sony is a press camera brand and nikon is for enthusiasts).

Most peoples idea of a professional photographer traces back to film, to the guy who knew what he was doing to shoot just one photo and get the perfect photo every time with manual-everything analog equipment. That's not true anymore. Anyone even similar to that guy is being and has been replaced by temps, internets, and sooner rather than later, fleets of AI drones, because technology has taken the standard required to take a good photo and sent it so low it flew out of the ground in china and left the solar system.

ARRI AND PANAVISION PRIMES are used as optical benchmarks. Not hasselblad shit. Christ man there is a big fat fucking link in the OP showing that hasselblad has very expensive lenses that are so soft that giant MF sensors can't save them vs a relatively cheap sony lens. You don't get 20% bought out by fucking DJI because your company is an optical baller. That doesn't happen, because if your lenses are that good, cinematographers will be clamoring to use them for imax and literally everything and pay out the ass just to borrow some.

Are you the same retard that worships zeiss and leica when zeiss and leica basically stopped developing optics for artistic/consumer imaging and went balls deep in industrial/medical/military optics ages ago. They only make a smattering of high end lens that are mostly rentals.

but hes right, those same meme mf brands youre talkinga bout, have the best lenses in the entire market. the only meme mf brands are fuji and leica. schneider cine lenses and schneider lenses for phase one mf cameras are not only the sharpest in the entire industry but also have the biggest image circle, the image circle on schneider cine lenses is literally twice as big than that of arri sp or panavision primo artiste lenses. that alone tells you how much sharper and clearer their lenses are.

Arri was big since WWII anon. The Arriflex 35 was the first reflex mirror shutter cinema camera. Arri is big because they pioneered the joy of reflex in cinema, and because they were tough cameras that you could trust when the push came to shove, pic related. The rest was built upon that.

Already happened. DJI went ahead and implemented LIDAR in their Full Frame cameras.
Canon has no answer.
Sony is trying with Global Shutter but it's still not implemented into their chinema lines.

for example canon/nikon/sony 15 bit raw file from their newest cameras will look much worse when color graded and edited, than e.g. lets say an edited and color graded 12 bit raw file from a 10 year old ARRI cine cam.

there are way more factors that go into the end result than just reading dynamic range of the camera from a spec sheet.

except it does. the bigger the image circle, the denser the glass elements have to be in order for such a big image circle to be sharp corner to corner. ARRI has an image circle that goes well outside of what the lens/sensor can capture and that results in some of the sharpest images corner to corner, on the entire market. kreuznach lenses for example have A TWICE AS BIG image circle compared to ARRI, making their lenses TWICE as sharp.

They were shooting Bogart & Bacall movies on Arri back in the 40s. It's been one of the industry standard brands for eons.
