Can I use Google StreetView to practice composition?
I'd like to do some "virtual photography" with like GTA4 or something since I'm currently bedridden but it seems like a lot of work to setup a monitor I can play on in bed.
I also played that game Umurangi Generation and it was kind of neat but it felt more like scavenger hunting than actual photography after awhile.

There are other photography themed games too. Like you could download an emulator of New Pokemon Snap if you don't have a switch. The ps3 game 'Afrika' stands out, too. It uses real photography concepts like aperture and shutter speed.
Its true that Umurangi is more like a scavenger hunt. But when you unlock more gear you could try to be more creative.
You could try to capture screenshots in other virtual environments as well. Google map related screenshots could be interesting if done right.
Lots of games have 'Photo Mode' and you could experiment with that. Things like Cyberpunk or Spiderman come to mind.

Sure, it'll work. Plenty of people use it as a scouting tool. Michael Wolf did a whole gallery from screengrabs of streetview. It wasn't altogether a gimmick. What the hell did you catch to put you down like that, if you don't mind me asking?

no, street view is already a 2d projection. you want to practice composing a 3d scene so it works projected onto a 2d surface. game photography, streetview, etc is not the same a real world photography. there's 0 transferable skills

try racing games. The Gran Turismo games from number 4 onwards have photo modes for driving and in static 3D scenes and you can play around with shutter speed and aperture. GT7 takes it further and has filters and masks which are really fun to play with and taught me how to properly use filters better than any YT tutorial ever did. Forza has one too but not as in depth.

not sure what to recommend for human subjects tho. Cyberpunk was supposed to have a really in depth photo mode iirc?
