I want to do timelapses of mushrooms growing indoors with my E-M1, as well as some photography with a trinocular microscope.

Am I totally wrong in thinking my E-M1 Mark III and 60mm macro lens would be all I need for this? I'm a total amatuer, so not sure if I need a totally different bit of kit for this sorta stuff. I only own the 60mm macro and E-M5 right now, so was gonna upgrade to the E-M1 Mark III mostly for this purpose (it can be powered over microUSB, making time lapses feasible).

you know you can get dummy batteries for nearly any camera

I did not know this. Be thankful you were born with a decent IQ, it must be nice to have an operational efficiency greater than a tortoises. So I just buy one of these for my E-M5 MK II and I could've been doing time lapses this whole time?

All nicer gear would do is improve image quality. You can even do this on a film camera with an intervalometer. You can power any camera through the battery port btw

Maybe? How much magnification do you want on your mycelium?

A real light microscope like that is going to get you waaaaay more magnification. Award winning macro is typically done with a microscope objective adapted to a camera. With this kind of setup focus stacking is usually required, but it'd get you a lot closer.

So weird, I made this thread last fall and got wildly different answers, no mention of a dummy battery or intervalometer. Appreciate the feedback. Any run of the mill intervalometer will work with the E-M5 MK II?

(decided to wait last time since I decided I wanted a dedicated space for photoshoots, rather than risking setting up my camera in the fruiting room - a humid room with sticky spores flying everywhere).

To clarify, I was going to use the 60mm macro for capturing the growth of fruiting bodies over time, as well as macro-level growth of mycelium on agar. I was going to use the trinocular microscope + E-M1 to capture hyphae and stuff like that (beyond what is typically called 'macro'). Pic rel is one of the style of scopes I want to get.
