I admit that the gros caillou part is quite boring, but as an example the sorbonne to pantheon zone is full of students and quite lively, and in general there are plenty of oddities and places you don't expect to see. A lot of films were shot in the rue de garibaldi, pl de fontenoy etc...
Well, just like everywhere else you gotta look deep to find interesting things places and people..
But I understand that montmartre is immediately cinematographic. Love the place.
Personally I'm chasing after art deco architecture, you can check out the Sain pierre de chaillot church, its absolutely magnificent, rive droite though
