They are an indie style promotion. They are in the business of selling cool moves and crazy stunts. Typically promotions that offer this kind of product considering drawing even to be a huge success, never making a profit, just making enough to justify putting on the next show. They also do like 5-20 shows a year not only because of the shoestring budget, but also style burns out fans, and talents eventually run out of idea.
Unfortunately for AEW they have to make 3 television shows a week and none of the talent is interested in changing their style. Traditionally wrestling draws based on people caring about who wins or loses. AEW is spefically built around talent who reject that notion and just want to get their shit in with their friends.
