it's yukes who made all the WWE games from smackdown 1 to wwe2k18. Whether it's actually the same guys or not I don't know. They always were a weird studio though. Their WWE games seemed taped together after the ps2 era and the graphics were never that great, even though their UFC games were legitimately cutting edge. Perhaps they had to make a new wrestling engine from scratch and could no longer rely on 20 years of work, and this is the result

There's definitely some holdovers they managed to keep from the old games, like some move animations, but it's probably a large percentage of new talent working on it. With how Japanese studios are I doubt they kept any source code, either. HCTP was 20 years ago, people just don't stick around the same company that long.

Story mode can be beat in 2 hours and there aren't branching paths, just slightly different dialogue depending on whether you won or lost your last match. The story is also the same for all characters. When you go to eat in a city the exact same dialogue plays every time, and you have to activate these cutscenes several times to properly progress in the game.

It's the same engine and mostly the same animations, for CAW's they just threw in old entrances from WWE guys like AJ Styles and Finn. The way weapons work is the same as old games, the hit modelling is the same.
Games have constant testing from the alpha phase to beta phase. They don't start testing after the disc is printed.

This bait is getting really low effort. It doesn't use the AKI engine. The only connection is has to that is one advisor for No Mercy. Not even a developer. It uses the old 2K engine and it's obvious, they even reuse the same animations. If you actually watch gameplay you can see the same animations for certain moves.

There are a lot of dev studios around these days that focus on remakes. Which means whipping up good graphics quickly and making other peoples engines work smoothly etc.
Could be cool if someone like Bushiroad leased the FF engine and could find a good studio that could whip something up for them.

Not that I know of. Most remakes/remasters are just cash grabs. Just look at the abomination that is the GTA Definitive Trilogy. Shit was riddled with bugs and somehow had worse character models than the original PS2 games.
