Makes sense, the WWE style is so stagnant you can pick maineventers from different eras and they would make sense as dream matches.
Most my favorite guys are from 90s All Japan or the southern territories of the 80s. Storytelling wise they are similar styles, but with emphasizes on completely different aspects so I don't think it would work. And the matchups that would work already happened.
I'd love to plug Cena into all my favorite Kobashi matches, they have very similar strengths so they'd probably still be great matches.

For me, it’s Misawa vs. Michaels. This is the greatest match we never got to see. The best of the west vs. the greatest of the east. Would’ve been an explosive match.

Difference between Kobashi and Cena is that Kobashi knows how to sell. Kobashi is everything Cena wishes he could be. I’m sure it’d be good, but I can think of 100 better WWE guys to put against Kobashi. Eddie, Benoit, Shawn, Bret, Undertaker. Brock and Kobashi is probably the best bet, imo. That would’ve been an insane match. I think I saw something about Kobashi wanting a match with Brock in 03. Could you imagine?
