These two guys are Victor Zangiev and Vladimir Berkovich. They're two technical mat wrestlers (Like Jack Brisco in Japan) and very good ones at that
I discovered through a match pack of NJPW in '89. Apparently they aren't remembered all that much since there's barely even pics of them on google, but i think they're awesome workers. Specially Zangiev.

I mean I guess you speak about casuals or something because there's no chance than any Western puro fan is remembering Takayama only for that one PRIDE fight, there are dozens of wrestling classics that he had as a pro wrestler especially one of the best matches ever, the GHC Title match against Kobashi, or even in his later years the wars he went against guys like Suwama, Sugiura, KENTA. Takayama is the definition of Japanese fighting spirit in pro wrestling which today is only a cheap term and nothing more.

I liked Hashimikov but him taking the trap off Vader after the latter only having it for a month was real weird to me. Hashimikov was still pretty green too.Anyone know why they booked it that way?

An NJPW card in april featured a shoot kickboxing match between Benny Urquidez and some jap, Inoki was a contender for the Martial Arts Championship, and you had the other Soviet wrestlers coming in. It was probably a proof of concept on the path to full-blown Inokism

I've been listening to the WCCW episodes of the Lapsed Fan Podcast lately, Fritz seems like such a retard. They probably still would have been fucked by the time of the Monday Night Wars, but WCCW could have been so much better if Fritz didn't refuse to push anyone but his kids to be world champ, also it's hilarious how much kvetching Fritz does when Jerry Jarrett takes over.

The popularity dried up with each death, also Mike should have retired after the toxic shock syndrome. Ric Flair talked about having to carry Mike through a match since Mike wasn't lucid, he was attacking and bumping for hallucinations. Also the Lance Von Erich situation soured things for some fans since they knew it was cheesy bullshit and he wasn't really part of the family.
