Extremely cringe with the pantyhose and the fake name (as if nobody could tell that's Terry Funk), but when they brought this version of him out, they put him in a box and had him cut out of it with the chainsaw.

the introduction was cool but all he did was job super hard to new age outlaws for a month and then he disappeared. the character was created purely to give the outlaws some hardcore credit and get them over just a little bit more.

Vince asked Terry what did he want his gimmick to be and Funk just pulled "Chainsaw Charlie" out of his ass jokingly on the spot and of course Vince went with it.
it was all Funk, the pantyhose, the baby powder, but I think it was Vince or Prichard had the idea of popping out of a box.

What made it work for me is JR never really sold it, he'd just say Terry Funk and occasionally "Chainsaw Charlie" in a mocking voice. In kayfabe it came across as Terry Funk being insane and creating his own version of a Cactus Jack persona, not an actual repackaging, thank god.
