In a weird way I can see what Inoki may have thought with mixing MMA with pro wrestling. It makes a weird kind of sense when juxtaposed with the philosophy of Strong Style. What he should have done though is work with MMA fighters to evolve dojo training. Make Young Lions learn the principles of MMA and incorporate its logic into traditional pro wrestling work and psychology. He furthermore should have learned to evolve the presentation of his shows.

Inoki started NJPW without a TV deal (unlike when Baba started AJPW) and turned it into the #1 promotion in the company and, other than a couple of years in the 80s, it remained there ever since. Even the down period of the early 00s still had more mainstream attention and stars than they have now.
