Gamers complain all the time about complicated systems, complex storylines, etc. People complained about game difficulty, they complained about early RPG dungeons being too big and complicated, complained about puzzles being too hard, complained about having to figure certain things out. They complained that Resident Evil needed to be streamlined, etc... Every medium has a bunch people complaining about everything, and another group of people complaining that they should do the opposite of what the first group is asking for, and yet another group saying they are both wrong.
