I'll believe it when I see it. The "sports-based wrestling" show that he promised has always been full of aliens, pockets man, people who can teleport etc. With those EVPs still there, it's always going to be DDT style shit.

This. They use the G1 to set up rivalries and future match ups, so when a match is later announced there is usually a through line to follow. AEW is just like "here's Jay White wrestling a random lucha guy because it's a match Tony wanted to see". Maybe if they leaned into Tony being a manchild dictator of AEW, the matches would make more sense

AEW really needs to find an identity already. It's been like 5 years. They started off as being more "serious" with the UFC gimmick and what not, then it quickly devolved into a comedy slop shop.
