SANADER's reign gets a 6.5/10 from me, i don't dislike him as champion, especially in the way that his challengers look like actual threats during the matches, very touring NWA champion style
but you can't ignore the lack of interest in both his defenses, and NJPW right now as a whole, not entirely his fault though

I've been watching NJPW pretty sporadically this year but I've seen all of SANADA's defences besides EVIL. My main feeling about the reign is that it was really hurt by the fact that he never defended against a real established main eventer (unless you count EVIL). Shingo was the obvious one they should have gone with, but even one defence against someone else like Ospreay or Ibushi if he was still there who could conceivably have taken the title would have changed the whole tenor of his reign.

Circumstances permitting I really think he should've beaten Jay for the belt and had Okada as his first defence.
Have him win the cup and beat Jay then defend against Okada at Dominion. He beat Okada for the belt so there really wasn't any way to go up in challenger status, only a sideways move into Naito who they were saving for the dome, or maybe ZSJ/Ospreay who had their own belts.

That 6-man match was a banger but why so fucking long if they were going to retain. It would be a great match to rewatch and come back to for cool moments if there was a change but it just goes down as another long clusterfuck defence for the superfriends who are always the overwhelming favourites and once again march on to something else.

Yes. Osaka was the only city that kept booing him long after LIJ happened. Osaka cheered for Jericho and booed Naito in 2018. It wasn’t until the title defense against KENTA in 2020 that he finally got the crowd on his side

I think he was a guy from their discord server and they basically all spent most of the episode reeeeeing about EVIL and SANADAs title reign. Keeping it Strong Style having fallen into that trap of liking AEW too much and surrounding themselves with people who love it. Yeah yesterday made it sting more, that UE group was a great fit for the 6-man belts and that match being as ridiculous as it was ultimately feels hollow with that result because lots of people have been *so close* to winning those belts this year including TMDK who lost title shots with a vengeance this year. Okada going into the dome even more vulnerable could add another layer to the story as well.
