Obviously, going from the existence of underground tunnels straight to Satanic child sacrifice is an extreme logical leap. But there's no good reason for these tunnels to exist. Their very nature and existence is absurd and bordering on farcical, so it's kind of hard to entertain a mundane explanation for them.
